This is the most simple recipe available on my blog! And probably the most important! Proper hydration is essential for all body functions, big and small. Keeping your pet(s) hydrated in the summer is critical! Since kibble is void of almost all moisture, it must be added back into the diet in various ways. This electrolyte drink is one! Not only does it provide hydration, it provides a variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to fight inflammation, and even ward off chronic disease!
*If your pet has a health condition (diabetes, heart disease, etc.) please consult their regular veterinarian before trying this recipe. It can act as a natural diuretic and can potentially make certain health conditions worse.

Ingredients:
Sliced or cubed watermelon
Organic cucumber
It can be hard to find organic watermelon, but if you can get it... please do so! Organic is always better!
Both of these foods are easy to find (or grow!), are very high in moisture, and offer a variety of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other beneficial nutrients.
Watermelon is high in lycopene, vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, and some B vitamins.
It even fights inflammation and protects against oxidative stress, diabetes & more.
Cucumber is high in potassium, magnesium, and vitamin K.
It even fights free radicals and has anti-cancer properties!
Not surprisingly, these two foods are in the same family!
Other supplies:
Glass or stainless steel dish
Filtered water
Depending on your pet's size, add a serving's worth of water to your pet's bowl.
My dog absolutely LOVES this drink, so she would quite literally make herself sick from drinking too much! I give her about 3/4 of a cup.
Slice up a few pieces of cucumber and watermelon and place them in the bowl of water.
Wait a few minutes so they can infuse the water with all the goodness they offer!
Serve your pet(s) this Summer Hydration Electrolyte Elixir on hot days, or as an occasional tasty treat!
