A Beefy Pupcake Recipe Your Dog Will Go Bonkers For!

Updated: Dec 14, 2023

Is your dog's birthday coming up? Special occasion? Bored on a Sunday afternoon?! Try this recipe! Beefy Peanut Butter & Banana Pupcakes with Strawberry icing! A quick homemade treat for your canine companion that's loaded with protein, antioxidants, flavor and nutrition. Serve this as a meal topper or as a mid-day snack!

Now, before you get into this one I do want to note: some dogs don't do well with peanut butter as it can be an inflammatory food... So use your best judgement before giving to a dog with health conditions!

Peanut butter can also contain dangerous ingredients like xylitol, added sugar and hydrogenated oils. Peanuts have also been found to contain toxic pesticides and herbicides. Be sure your peanut butter is organic, and plain!

Makes:

1 dozen pupcakes

Total time investment:

About an hour

Ingredients:

For the cakes:

  • 1 cup Grandma Lucy's Beef Moxie Dog Food

  • 1 cup Coconut flour

  • 2/3 cup Banana/ apple sauce pureé (I used baby food, but feel free to make your own)!

  • 2/3 cup Raw goat's milk (Primal Pet is my favorite)

  • 1 tbsp Coconut oil (organic and unrefined is best)

  • 1/3 cup Organic, PLAIN Peanut butter (be sure there is NO XYLITOL and minimal sugar)

  • 1 cup water

For the Icing:

  • 1 small container of strawberry Yogurt (I used Daiya brand- dairy free)

  • 2/3 cup Peanut Butter (This mixture is actually REALLY good)!

  • Miscellaneous toppings (see below)

Other supplies:

  • Mixing bowl

  • Small bowl

  • Fork

  • Spoon

  • Muffin pan

  • Cupcake liners

Directions:

Place the coconut oil and peanut butter in a small pan on very low heat on the stove until it is smooth but not too hot. I keep goat's milk cubes in the freezer and my natural peanut butter in the fridge, so this step was important!

While that is melting, mix all dry ingredients together in a mixing bowl.

Stir your baby food pureé, coconut oil/ peanut butter and water into the dry ingredients using a fork.

Next, place cupcake liners in a baking pan and scoop mix into each one. Fill them to the top and press down firmly with the fork (these will not rise or become fluffy).

Ready Set Bake!

325 for about 30 minutes or until the top of the cakes turn a bit crispy.

Feel free to let your dog lick the bowl and the spoon!!

As your Pupcakes are cooking, it's time to mix together the icing!

Simply mix your yogurt and peanut butter together in a bowl and stir thoroughly.

Your dog should be going BONKERS by now smelling all this peanut butter! Again, he can lick the spoon.. I know its hard to wait for yummy treats to bake!

You can leave the icing on the counter, or set it in the fridge.

When your cakes are done, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool completely.

If you put your icing in the fridge, remove it now and let it reach room temperature.

After both items have cooled... It's time to frost!

Is your dog drooling yet?!

Last, but not least: top each Beefy Pupcake with a small treat or piece of fruit for a gourmet, aesthetic touch! Yeah, our pets can eat fancy too!

I used Fruitables Crunchy Strawberry Yogurt Treats.

Serve!

This recipe makes about 1 dozen cakes!

Keep in mind, Grandma Lucy's Beef Moxie is a complete meal in itself! But this recipe should only be served as a treat!

  • For large dogs- If serving with a meal, cut your dog's normal portion by about 25%.

  • For smaller dogs- give them 1/2- 1/4 of a cake per serving and cut back their daily food intake for as much as you give.

Cakes can be stored in a covered container in the fridge for about a week, or you can freeze them!

Enjoy!

I hope you loved making these Beefy Pupcakes as much as I did!

If your dog loved them, feel free to leave a review and share the recipe with your friends!

Woof!
